Police are investigating after an 8-month-old boy was found floating in the water near the Brooklyn Bridge.

Investigators say a family of tourists spotted the baby around 4 p.m. Sunday.

One of them brought the baby to shore to wait for police.

Officers tried CPR but the child was unresponsive.

"I was just looking out there looking. They kept asking if any parents were around but it was just the baby out there in the water, nobody around," said one witness at the scene.

The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The cause of death is unclear, and his body showed no signs of trauma.

An empty backpack was seen near the child, but police don't know if it's connected to his death.
