Staten Islanders are coming together to fight hunger in the borough.

The Staten Island Hunger Task Force held its 7th annual Anti-Hunger Legislative Breakfast at Wagner College Friday.

Organizers with the nonprofit joined elected officials to discuss issues facing local food pantries and families in need.

Reverend Terry Troia says the task force is pushing congress not to cut funding for the food stamp program called SNAP, which allows low-income families to choose the food they buy.

"We don't want to go back to surplus food. We want to be able to empower poor people to purchase the food that they need for their family and their children's needs," said Troia.
