The NYPD says a police officer was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in the Bronx Thursday morning, and police say the man behind the wheel is now under arrest.

The officer was struck shortly after 10 a.m. at West 183rd Street and Grand Avenue, police say.

Police say the officer suffered a leg injury after being struck by a black Toyota Camry.

The officer is in stable condition. Police Commissioner James O'Neill says his injuries are not life-threatening.

O'Neill also says the driver of that vehicle, identified as Robert Rivera, was taken into police custody. O'Neill says he was found laying low in an apartment.

The vehicle was recovered a short distance away from the scene, but the driver was not in it when it was found, according to police.
