AUSTIN, Texas – The man who broke into a Central Austin home in late January died from a self-inflicted gunshot and not police gunfire, according to the Travis County Medical Examiner's preliminary ruling.

Christopher Giles, 23, died on Jan. 26 following a shootout with Austin police officers after he attempted to rob a home on the 4500 block of Avenue G.

While officers did fire at Giles, his death is being considered a suicide, according to the Austin Police Department.

Based on a search of Giles' cell phone and his home in New Mexico, authorities believe that he wanted to harm Gavin Free and Megan Turney, two YouTube stars he was obsessed with, when he broke into their Austin home.  A warrant describes Giles as "lonely and disturbed."
