SAN ANTONIO --Despite the government shutdown, passports are still being processed.

On Saturday, the City of San Antonio gave people the chance to apply for the document as a family. The event gives people a rare opportunity to apply for passports and purchase copies of birth and death certificates on a Saturday. The city holds the events so parents with weekday jobs can buy passports for the whole family.

"During the weekday it becomes difficult for the parents to bring in their children. So this is a day that we offer for those working families that can't take off of work to bring in their children to apply for their passports,” said Laticia Vacek.

The City holds three passport and vital records day events throughout the year. People interested in the event will want to make sure to bring a check or money order to purchase a passport.
