These aren't your traditional holiday wreaths, but they're making quite the statement.

More than 40 designs were selected for the Parks Department's annual Wreath Interpretation Exhibit.

Materials like pencils, bottles and yarn were used to create the festive ornament.

"I'm always surprised at how many different interpretations on this iconic holiday symbol that we can every year," said Elizabeth Masella, public art coordinator with the department,

"I think the pencil is a lost instrument," said artist Leonora Retsas. "I mean, everything is digital nowadays, but if you think about from Bruneleski to Rembrandt, making art, communication."

The exhibit opens to the public tomorrow at the Arsenal Gallery in Central Park, and will run through January 4.
