The NYPD is investigating after an officer shot a man in Rockaway Beach on Tuesday afternoon.

Several officers responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress at a home on Shore Front Parkway near Beach 102nd St. around noon.

When they arrived, according to police, they found a woman lying in the grass in the back of the building. She had been stabbed in the torso.

Officers said they then found her brother inside the home with a knife. Officials said they told him to drop it, and tased him three times when he did not comply.

That did not have an effect on him. According to police, when he moved towards the officers, one officer shot the suspect once in the leg.

None of the officers involved were injured.

The woman and her brother are expected to survive, officials said.

"The perp had an extensive psychological history, had spent time at Creedmoor Hospital, and was recently released from Rikers Island as of last Friday," said NYPD Chief of Patrol Terence Monahan.

"It's a great, great place," one local man said. "Nothing ever happens here like this."

"These things, they happen every day — it just so happened to happen here. I hate to say it like that, but happened a little too close to home," another man said.

Police recovered the knife, seen in the video above, at the scene.
