Red, green and white lined the streets of Midtown for the annual Mexican Day Parade.

Thousands of revelers came out Sunday to watch performers in elaborate costumes and colorful floats make their way through the streets.

The parade kicked off on Madison Avenue and 38th St. and went down to 27th St.

Attendees told us why celebrating their Mexican heritage is so important.

"I feel very honored and I feel a lot of pride coming to these types of events, especially sharing these kind of moments with my people and especially in New York," one person at the parade said.

"I brought my family to show them the culture, it's so pretty. It's so big and it's so beautiful to see something so richly me," another person said.

The parade began back in 1994 in Astoria, Queens.

At the time, it only covered one block as part of the first Mexican Independence Festival.
