A federal employee was hospitalized Wednesday after a flash grenade accidentally detonated at the downtown building where several law enforcement agencies are located, according to officials.

"An FBI employee was injured after an accidental discharge of a flash bang device," said FBI spokesperson Kelly Langmesser. "There was no explosion. No act of terrorism. It was an accident."

FDNY officials said one person was taken from 26 Federal Plaza to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition after the incident, which happened around 1 p.m.

The FBI later said that person, an FBI special agent, suffered non-life threatening injuries, and that there is no threat to public safety at this time.
