A talented team of high school cheerleaders in the city needs a cheering section of their own.

They are looking for donors to help get them to a big competition.

The cheer squad at Stuyvesant High School wants to shake their pompoms at Nationals in Orlando this February.

Because cheerleading isn't recognized as a sport by the Public Schools Athletic League, they don't receive any funding to travel with.

The team launched a campaign to raise $30,000 by February so both the varsity and junior varsity teams can make it.

"We do football and basketball, but we're also ambassadors for the community," said head cheerleading coach Nick O'Stanton. "So we do a lot of community work volunteering and cheering on races and raising money for other causes when we can."
