NEW YORK - Renovations are slated to begin Wednesday on Roosevelt Island's tram service platforms.

They will be removed and replaced at each station in Roosevelt Island and in Manhattan.

In the meantime, only one tram cabin will be running every 15 minutes.

Construction is expected to last through the winter.

According to the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, about 7,000 people take the tram every day.

Alternative travel options include Red Bus shuttle service to and from the Roosevelt Island and Manhattan tram stations.

Riders can also take Q102 bus service to connect to Manhattan bound trains at Queensboro Plaza.

Ferry service from Roosevelt Island to Manhattan will start by the end of August.
