A newly-unveiled robot in Manhattan shows sports are not just about sweat and muscles — there's also a lot of math and brain power involved.

The National Museum of Mathematics is the home of Ball Bot, a robot that shoots regulation-size basketballs.

Visitors can program height, angle, and speed parameters to see if they can make the robot score.

"For some people who might like basketball, and think they don't like math, they can come and experience basketball through the lens of math and maybe see math in a different way," said Cindy Lawrence, the executive director and CEO of the museum.

Players can also take a shot of their own, see computer-generated stats, and learn how to better aim for more buckets.

Ball Bot is a new permanent exhibit at the museum.
