Why nama-stay at home when you can do your yoga in Times Square?

Yogis gathered Wednesday to celebrate the first day of summer with free yoga classes in Midtown.

It's called Solstice in Times Square, an event designed to bring a tranquil atmosphere to one of the city's loudest and busiest areas.

"Of course our lives are so crazy in New York, how do you stay calm? And the perfect metaphor is doing yoga in the middle of Times Square. This year, our theme is actually Ahimsa: Non violence, and do no harm, which is more relevant than ever," said Times Square Alliance President Tim Tompkins.

The yoga will go on in Times Square until 8:30 p.m.

More than 12,000 people are registered to participate throughout the day, but walkups are permitted as space allows.
