Saturday is Earth Day, and thousands are marking the occasion by sprucing up more than 50 park and gardens around the five boroughs.

That is part of the 23rd annual New York Cares Day Spring.

One site getting a makeover is Riverside Park, where volunteers will repair and restore bike paths and ball fields.

If you want to lend a hand, go to newyorkcares.org to find out where cleanups are taking place.

Also as part of Earth Day, Broadway was be closed to all vehicular traffic until 4 p.m. between Times Square and Union Square.

Cars and trucks were also be banned from St. Nicholas Ave. in Washington Heights between 181st St. and 190th St.

That part of the city's second Car-Free Day, which encourages New Yorkers to walk or bike around the city.
