NEW YORK - Students in Upper Manhattan have teamed up with a local artist to showcase diversity in their neighborhood.

Artist Manny Vega helped students at East Harlem Tutorial Program, who recently unveilled a five-story banner from the top of their school on 105th Street and Second Avenue.

The piece is titled #BuildLove, and the school says it was made in response to a climate of division in national politics.

"It's always a pleasure to collaborate with the community and to provide a venue for the kids to actually be able to have a voice and to protest," Vega said.

"You can't educate students unless you understand who they are and where tehy came from, and that's been our model for decades, and is still today. This is really a part of that movement," said East Harlem Tutorial Program Executive Director Jeff Ginsburg.

The piece took two weeks to complete, and features the flags of Mexico, the United States, Ecuador, Pakistan, Syria, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Honduras, and the Pride flag.
