NEW YORK - A large sinkhole nearly swallowed two parked cars in Upper Manhattan early Monday morning.

The Office of Emergency Management said a "possible water condition" cracked open a street in Washington Heights.

It happened a little before 4 a.m. on West 167th Street near Edgecomb Avenue.

Officials closed Edgecombe Avenue from 165th to 170th Street in both directions.

The fire department said there were no injuries or evacuations of the area.

The cause is under investigation.
