NEW YORK - Subway buskers are calling on the NYPD to let them perform at the stations along the new Second Avenue Subway in Manhattan.

The MTA allows musical performances in the subway system as long as they don't block foot traffic, interfere with transit operations, or make too much noise.

Musicians can also perform even if they are not part of the MTA's Music Under New York program.

But the group Busk NY says police harrassment has become common at the new stations.

The group posted a video earlier this week showing city police officers asking a violinist to leave the 86th Street station.

One officer said he would place the musician in handcuffs.

A rally is planned for 4 p.m. Thursday at the 72nd Street station.

The MTA issued a statement saying it is proud to support arts and musical performances.

It goes on to say, "Any musician is welcome to perform in the New York City subway system as long as they follow the Transit Rules of Conduct."
