The Butterfly Conservatory is coming out of its cocoon at the American Museum of Natural History.

Between 500 and 600 butterflies are already flying around the 1,200-square-foot habitat.

Tropical species from Central and South America, Africa, Asia and Australia are all on display.

"You can see the feeding like this, you can see them basking under the lights, you can see them doing courtship displays, and you can get a really close look at their anatomy. We have a magnifying glass in here for you to get really close," said Hazel Davies of the American Museum of Natural History.

The conservatory opens to the public on Saturday and will be open until Memorial Day.
