NEW YORK - Testimony is set to begin Friday morning in Manhattan in the retrial of the man accused of killing 6-year-old Etan Patz.

Opening arguments got underway Wednesday in the second murder trial of Pedro Hernandez.

Prosecutors say Hernandez confessed to the murder several times to friends, family, and investigators.

His defense attorneys say Hernandez is mentally ill, and hallucinated the killing.

They also maintain he was coerced into confessing by police.

Patz disappeared while walking alone to a SoHo bus stop in 1979.

Prosecutors say Hernandez killed the boy after luring him into a bodega with the promise of a soda.
