A rally was held in Times Square Friday in solidarity with Dominicans who are being denied citizenship in their home country.

It's  now been three years since a court ruling in the Dominican Republic stripped nationality from nearly a quarter-million residents born of Haitian descent.

In 2014, lawmakers vowed to restore nationality to a portion of affected residents.

But activists gathered outside the Dominican Consulate say they haven't lived up to their word, and told us what they're protesting for

"To ensure that the sentence that was passed in 2013 is reversed and ultimately Domincans of Haitian descent, Haitian-migrants that are living in the Dominican Republic are treated as humans and treated as members of the society that they are a part of," said one protester.

"Many people because of threats of violence have fled their homes and you've seen people who are being expelled from their own country living along the border," said another.

Haiti shares the same island with the Dominican Republic.
