Police Commissioner William Bratton presided over his final NYPD promotions ceremony.

Members of department moved up in the ranks at Police Headquarters Tuesday.

During his remarks, Bratton detailed his transition from being a police officer in Boston to becoming the youngest sergeant and superintendent-in-chief in the city's history.

He encouraged fellow officers to always strive to be better leaders and to guide others under their supervision.

"You're being promoted for what you have done, but you're also being promoted for our belief that you can do more, that you can in fact take the responsibilities that you are now going to assume, take those responsibilities, the powers that you have, and use them in the right way, to serve as role models, to serve as inspiration," Bratton said.

Bratton is set to step down from his post next month to take a position with advisory firm Teneo.

He'll be replaced by Chief of Department James O'Neill.
