Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man they say tried to rape a woman on Manhattan's Lower East Side earlier this week.

Investigators say it happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday near Suffolk and Stanton Streets.

Police say the man seen in the video above took his pants and underwear off and laid on top of a 21-year-old woman lying on the street.

Sources said the two had been talking earlier and the woman passed out from intoxication.

The man was allegedly attempting to remove her pants when a passerby yelled at him, causing him to run off.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
