Harlem is widely considered to be the heart of African-American culture in the city, and a new exhibit is taking the neighborhood beyond it's borders.

The Federal Hall National Memorial is hosting "Harlem is Downtown".

The multi-level exhibit celebrates the history, the people, and the arts that have helped to define Harlem, as well as the neighborhood's relationship with Lower Manhattan.

Curators say they hope downtown visitors will headed uptown to learn more.

"I think the exhibit will inspire people to visit Harlem, it covers so much of our culture, the people, theater, dance, music, the arts, visual arts, performing arts and just the history from the 1600's to the present day and all the people who helped define Harlem," said Community Works Guest Curator Misha McGlown.

The exhibit runs through April 15.
