A concrete roof is transforming to a sea of green as work begins on Liberty Park at the World Trade Center.

NY1 was given an exclusive tour of the park-in-progress on top of the 25-foot-high entrance to the World Trade Center's vehicle security area.

There are 50 trees being planted along with 1,000 shrubs on the acre space.

Work on the park officially started this week and could be finished by summer of next year.

"Truly be a wonderful park the people can enjoy," said Steven Plate, director of construction at the World Trade Center. "You can see the beautiful finishes. You could see the beautiful genre. And it's just spectacular. And the view is spectacular as well. When you look around, it really shows the World Trade Center is open for business."

The cost of the park is roughly $50 million.
