Carnegie Hall has elected a new chairwoman a month after Ron Perelman stepped down on bad terms with the music hall.

Mercedes Bass will take the reigns for now while the board searches for a permanent replacement.

She has served as vice chairwoman since 2006 and has been on the board for 26 years.

She released a statement saying, "As someone who has long loved Carnegie Hall—its unparalleled commitment to artistic excellence and its service to education and community—I feel privileged to assume this new post."

Her predecessor, Perelman, decided not to run for re-election after butting heads with the music hall's leadership.

He says the Hall's management needs more oversight and transparency, and he doesn't believe other board members took his concerns seriously.
