The 10th annual New York Comic Con is taking over the Javits Center this week, an event that draws fans of all kinds of entertainment from comic books to video games to movies. Roger Clark did a little geeking out of his own on opening day at the Javits Center. He filed the following report.

Where else can you see that time-jumping DeLorean from Back to the Future, the fun loving R2-D2 from Star Wars, and maybe bump into some superheroes, too? It must be New York Comic Con time.

"It is extremely wild, crazy," said Jon-Jon, dressed up as Jason from the Friday the 13th movie series. "There's a lot of people, a lot of characters, a lot of fun."

It's the 10th edition of the massive celebration of pop culture: video games, books, movies, TV and, of course, comics.

The four-day convention at the Javits Center and other spots around town is completely sold out, and 167,000 people are expected to attend.

"It's a lot of people that are coming," said Lance Fensterman, senior global vice president of ReedPop. "It tells you a lot about pop culture and the geek community. They come out strong to support what they love."

And as is tradition, many come dressed as their favorite characters, which in some cases involves applying body paint.

"I have it with me," said one person dressed as Gamora from "Guardians of the Galaxy." "I keep re-applying because I keep rubbing up against people, so it comes off."

"When you dress up as the character and they look at you and say, 'Hey, it's you,' and everybody smiles, it's worth it," said one person dressed as Ahsoka Tano from "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."

You never know what you are going to find at New York Comic Con, like an animatronic velociraptor from Jurassic World. It is not for sale, but a lot of other stuff is.

I grabbed a cool Batman shirt myself. Couldn't help it. This event brings out the kid in all of us.

"It's stuff I grew up with, which wasn't cool when I was younger. And now, it's cool now, so that's the best part," said attendee Rich Martinez, a Ghostbusters fan.

So go sit in Captain Kirk's chair. Just watch out for raptors.
