A new exhibit in Manhattan showcases the work of legendary Broadway illustrator of Al Hirschfeld.

The New York Historical Society celebrates "The Hirschfeld Century" with an exhibit featuring more than 100 pieces of original work.

His drawings include illustrations for the New York Times and posters for Broadway shows.

Hirschfeld's wife says he made a special connection to his subjects through art.

"The first time that he actually drew me across the table looking at those eyes, I started to blush, because I thought those eyes are X-ray, and he can see right through me. And maybe that's what he did when he saw all those wonderful performances, not only in the theater but film," she said.

Admission for kids is free this weekend.

The exhibit runs until October 12.
