"Deflategate" is deflated as a federal judge rules in favor of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, taking away his four game suspension.

The Manhattan judge said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell went too far in his punishment for the quarterback and that Brady was not made aware that he could receive a suspension for knowing of or participating in a scheme to deflate footballs.

Brady has maintained that he had nothing to do with deflating balls during the AFC championship game in January.

This comes after both sides failed to reach an agreement earlier in the week.

Though the dispute has been settled, the league still has the opportunity to appeal, which Goodell says it will.

"The commissioner's responsibility to secure the competitive fairness of our game is a paramount principle, and the league and our 32 clubs will continue to pursue a path to that end," he said in a statement.

For now, the ruling clears the way for the four time Super Bowl champion to prepare for the Patriots' September 10 season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
