A replica of a 16th-century Spanish ship is docked at the South Street Seaport.

El Galeón is a full-size model of one of the ships in Spain's West Indies fleet.

Before arriving, crew members spent 24 days crossing the Atlantic Ocean using 16th century sailing techniques and navigational technology.

Crew members say the ship offers a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors.

"It's a vessel which allows people to actually see what it was like to be a mariner, traversing the oceans, traveling from Europe to explore the Americas" said Cameron Clarke of Horn Blower Cruises and Events. "For a kid jumping on board here today, you can grab the wheel and see what it felt to be like a captain out on the high seas, or get below the deck and touch a cannon."

The ship will be docked at Pier 15 through July 12.
