In the last year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art drew its highest number of visitors ever since they began tracking attendance more than 40 years ago.

Six point three million people went to the Met in the last fiscal year, which ended June 30.

That includes visitors to the Met's main building on Fifth Avenue, and The Cloisters museum and gardens in Upper Manhattan.

Some of the most popular exhibits were the Costume Institute's retrospective on China's influence in fashion, and a new collection of cubist paintings featuring work by Picasso and Braque.

Next year, the museum will expand to the landmark Marcel Breuer building on Madison Avenue, formerly occupied by the Whitney Museum.
