A probationary sanitation worker stopped a robbery from happening in Manhattan early Tuesday morning.

Cellphone video taken inside the 7-Eleven on 23rd Street and Park Avenue captured part of it.

A representative for 44-year-old Curtis Jackson says Jackson was in the store early Tuesday morning when he saw a man holding what looked like a firearm in his jacket. Then, he noticed that the store cashier had his hands in the air.

The representative says that Jackson came up from behind and wrestled the man to the ground.

"When I saw what was going on, my natural instinct was to stop him," Jackson said. "He didn't see me, so I just wanted to, my first concern was for nobody to get hurt. I didn't want to get hurt, I didn't want my partner to get hurt and I didn't want the cashier to get hurt."

Police arrested 47-year-old Nicholas Micena at the scene when they arrived. He was later charged. They say he is homeless and had a hypodermic needle on him at the time.

No gun was recovered.
