Know your evacuation zone, make a plan and stay informed. That's the plan the city's Office of Emergency Management is unveiling to you prepare for the coming hurricane season.

The federal agency tracking the storms says this year will be a light one, with only six to 11 named storms predicted, but city officials say you need to take them seriously.

"If you're asked to evacuate, we really expect you to do that. It's very, very important," said Joseph Esposito, commissioner of the city's Office of Emergency Management. "I think we learned a very serious lesson after Sandy. Forty some-odd deaths. I think it would have been a lot fewer deaths if people would have evacuated."
