Police are looking for two people they say used hammers and a gun to rob a Midtown jewelry store in broad daylight.
According to police, three men wearing dark suits and fedora hats entered Tourneau on Madison Avenue at around 1:20 p.m.
Police say one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a gun and fired it into the floor, terrifying employees. The other two allegedly used the hammers to smash display cases, according to police.
Police say the men filled at least two duffel bags with Rolex watches, allegedly collecting more than 50 of them. They fled down 53rd Street towards Park Avenue, police say, with security giving chase.
Four employees working at the store at the time of the robbery were moved into one part of the store while the robbery was taking place, police say. Officials say one of the suspects fired another shot in the direction of one of the employees before the men tried to escape.
No one was hit when the gun was fired, according to police, who say the gun was not recovered at the scene.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Police say one of the suspects was captured, but they are still looking for two others.
According to police, the suspect who was captured was carrying a duffel bag with jewelry in it.
"Plainclothes officers from the 17th Precinct encountered them on Park Avenue," said Chief William Aubry of the NYPD. "A brief foot pursuit ensued, and one of the suspects with a duffel bag was apprehended on 58th Street [and] Park Avenue by the plainclothes officers. A duffel bag containing jewelry was recovered from that individual."
Police say they have been talking with witnesses. They say they also have surveillance video of the incident that they will look at and release to the public to help find the other suspects.
