The prosecution in the Etan Patz case played another video Thursday of the defendant confessing to strangling a boy the day Etan disappeared in 1979.
Prior confessions made by Pedro Hernandez were in front of police and prosecutors, but this one was to a psychiatrist hired by the prosecution to serve as a rebuttal witness.
The psychiatrist diagnosed Hernandez with borderline personality disorder, but no major mental illness. That contradicts the diagnosis of the defense psychiatrist, who said Hernandez has a type of personality disorder.
The defense said Hernandez is mentally ill, which is why he believed the story he himself made up about strangling Patz.
The 6-year-old went missing after walking to a school bus stop almost 36 years ago.
The trial has been going on for about two months. Lawyers could present closing arguments as early as next week.
