The rabbi of an Upper East Side synagogue will be granted papal knighthood by Cardinal Timothy Dolan and other religious leaders Monday.

The honor will be bestowed upon Rabbi Arthur Schneier on behalf of Pope Francis.

The 85-year-old took over Park East Synagogue in 1962.

Three years later, the Holocaust survivor from Vienna founded the Appeal of Conscience Foundation. The interfaith coalition of business and religious leaders promotes peace, tolerance and ethical conflict resolution.

Schneier is being granted the fifth papal order, named for St. Sylvester.

"The award is awarded. Now, I'm just getting the St. Sylvester insignia and what goes with it. Presented by the Nuncio of the Holy Seed to the United Nations at his official residence with the participation with my close friend, Cardinal Dolan," Schneier said.

Schneier has also received the U.S. Presidential Citizens Medal and the U.S. Department of State Special Recognition Award.

He was named one of the 100 most trustworthy people in the U.S. by a Readers' Digest magazine poll and listed as one of the most influential Rabbis in the country by Newsweek.
