Prosecutors rested their case Friday against the man accused of kidnapping and murdering 6-year-old Etan Patz 35 years ago.

The trial for accused murderer Pedro Hernandez is expected to last at least another month.

The defense case is expected to begin Monday, with testimony from Hernandez's wife or daughter.

The prosecution showed that Hernandez confessed to hurting, strangling and killing the boy to six people, including a psychologist.

On Friday, Hernandez showed jurors where he said the incident happened, in the bodega's basement.

He also detailed how he choked the boy, then threw his body in a bag before putting it in a box.

However, his attorney, Harvey Fishbein, said Hernandez has mental issues and that his stories are inconsistent.

"In one case, he said that he had killed a dark-skinned kid - and again, he was about 19 years old, so he calls him a kid - who threw something at him. He tells his first wife that he killed a kid who had come on to him. There's no connecting this to the Etan Patz incident," Fishbein said.

Patz's mother took the stand Friday, talking about the emotional toll the loss of her son has had on her and the community.

An original investigator also testified, but the focus was on the new investigation launched in 2012. That sparked a tip from Hernandez's relative, which eventually led to his interrogation and confession.
