Governor Andrew Cuomo says the Queens Midtown Tunnel is in for major Hurricane Sandy-related repairs.

Cuomo says the MTA will award $236 million to a construction firm Wednesday to begin rebuilding the crossing.

Twelve million gallons of saltwater poured into the tunnel during Sandy in October 2012, causing heavy damage.

It's been operating with temporary repairs ever since.

Cuomo says the money is being pulled from a FEMA grant given to the city for repairs to the Hugh L. Carey and Midtown tunnels.

The work is expected to start this summer. It will likely include night and weekend tube and lane closures.
