Con Edison crews responded to a power outage in Manhattan Friday morning.

The utility says it started getting reports around 7 a.m. from people who live on 30th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues.

More than 700 customers are affected, but Con Ed says it expects to have the power back up and running sometime during the evening.

Some people who spoke with NY1 say the outage is also affecting their heat on one of the coldest days of the winter.

"Our heat went out and also the hot water heater, so it was just a cold shower this morning," said one neighborhood resident.

"It's weird because in our apartment we have electricity in the bedroom, in the hallway and the kitchen, we have TV but we have nothing in the kitchen, or heat," said another neighborhood resident.

Con Ed tells NY1 the heat may be affected if the boilers rely on electricity.

The agency says an electrical cable failed, causing the outage.

It's unclear if the unusually cold weather played a role.
