The city didn't get as much snow as anticipated, but there's still enough to make a snowman.

Hundreds of kids and adults took part in what was called the "Snowman Showdown" on the Upper East Side.

It's an event that the nonprofit group "Asphalt Green" organizes after every first snowstorm of the season.

The rules are simple: just build a snowman and be creative.

The group said the event is exactly what the city needs after a storm.

"Avery festive atmosphere again," said Christine Klapper-Gonzales of Asphalt Green. "We had the music and the hot chocolate. Everybody, and every kid, loves that. But just seeing everyone out here just having some fun, being active, getting outside, being outside after a couple of long days of being stuck inside was really great for everyone."

The group said snowman-building fits its mission to promote sports and fitness among New Yorkers.
