During the snowstorm, a member of the New York City Fire Department played the role of hero for man's best friend.

Burt had been missing from his home on the Upper West Side since last August.

His owner tirelessly searched her Upper West Side neighborhood for him, even creating a Facebook page to help. But then, in the middle of the storm, she finally got the call she was waiting for.

FDNY Lieutenant David Kelly saw Burt roaming around Randall's Island a number of times over the past month, and finally caught him Tuesday morning during the snow.

"I took my dog's cage from home, and then I left the door open and I tied a 40-foot rope to it, and then I parked the vehicle because I knew if he saw me, he wouldn't come. So I sat inside the vehicle, left the window open a little bit. When he went in the, finally, he came out, when he went in the cage, I pulled the rope and finally I got him," Kelly said.

Burt's owner said he's resting at home and is expected to make a full recovery.
