Workers broke ground this week on a Manhattan office tower that will eventually be part of the largest private real estate development in the United States.

The tower, named 55 Hudson Yards, is going up at Eleventh Avenue and 34th Street.

The 51-story tower is expected to open its doors in 2017.

The construction begins just weeks after Japanese investment firm Mitsui Fudosan purchased a majority stake in the building.

The Hudson Yards development project will feature more than 100 shops and restaurants, about 5,000 apartments, a public school and a hotel.
