Fashion world icon Anna Wintour has famously called trends a dirty word. But after seeing countless shows during NY Fashion Week, NY1's Stephanie Simon uses the T word - "trends" - to let us know what's big for fall and winter 2015.

You have probably heard that using the term “trend” is no longer trendy. That’s ok - we're still going to dare to tell you what's hot for Fall 2015. Stylist George Brescia has lots of great advice. First, he says it is not about replicating everything you see on the runway. It is more about being inspired.

"It's all about pattern in so many different forms. We’re seeing bright patterns, we’re seeing muted patterns, sort of an Aztec feel, and then we’re mixing pattern on pattern, there’s a lot of that. Of course our favorite black and white graphic, we always see that,” says Brescia. “Again, we’re also seeing the continuation of the 70s moment, so we're seeing a glamourous 70's moment."

Looking for the easiest way to freshen up your wardrobe? Pop that color.

"A bright red, a bright blue, an emerald green - and that’s really exciting because you know I love color, so I find that wonderful," says Brescia.

There are many great trends. They look great on the models, they look great coming down the runway, but it’s important, before you even go to the store, stop and ask yourself…

"What looks good on me? So I’m the shopper, say what looks good on me? What looks good on you?" says Brescia.

Just because it looks great on the runway does not mean it is the perfect cut or color for you.

"If you’re too afraid to show it off as the total star of the show in your outfit, then do it as an accent. Maybe you’re doing a great patterned blouse under a beautiful dark suit, something like that," says Brescia.

There are lots of easy ways to update without breaking the bank.

"If you’re looking to extend your wardrobe on a budget, accessories are the perfect thing to do: a statement earring, a fabulous handbag, a cool belt, a fabulous shoe," suggests Brescia.

The best accessory can be your own confidence. Like George always says, you wear the clothes, they do not wear you.
