TROY, N.Y. — A mother is facing charges after a fire broke out in a house in Troy where her three children were home alone.

The children, ages  3, 8 and 9, got out safely.

Troy police say 27-year-old Charlyce Cherry is now facing three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say Child Protective Services is also investigating.

The Troy fire chief says the fire caused serious damage on all floors of the 4th Avenue home.

The cause remains under investigation, but the fire chief does suspect that the children played a part.

The Red Cross says they are now financially helping the family with shelter, food and clothing.
