Greg Bird's seventh-inning home run broke a scoreless tie, and the Yankees' pitching staff made it hold up for a 1-0 victory in Game 3 of the American League Division Series over the Indians in the Bronx.

New York's Masahiro Tanaka pitched seven scoreless innings for the win, giving up three hits, walking one and striking out seven.

Tanaka got a boost from his defense in the top of the sixth when outfielder Aaron Judge robbed Cleveland's Francisco Lindor of a home run that would have given Cleveland a 2-0 lead.

Bird led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run off former Yankee Andrew Miller. The home run accounted for the only run of the game.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman was credited with a five-out save. He gave up two hits in the top of the ninth, but he struck out outfielder Jay Bruce and got first baseman Carlos Santana to fly out to preserve the victory.

The Bronx Bombers now trail 2-1 in the best-of-five series. Game 4 is Monday night at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m.
