Media reports say a grand jury has approved the first known charges to result from the investigation into Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

CNN reported that the charges remain sealed in Robert Mueller's investigation, but anyone charged could be taken into custody as early as Monday. It is not clear what are the charges.

The probe is focused on potential collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, as well as obstruction of justice by the president.

Mueller was appointed special counsel in May to lead the investigation.
