NEW YORK - Prosecutions for marijuana possession have dropped significantly in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

This after the District Attorneys of both boroughs decided to stop pursuing most cases.

According to numbers put out by Manhattan DA Cy Vance Jr., there was an 87 percent drop in arraignments for low-level marijuana offenses from August to October.

Most of those incidents resulted in immediate dismissals.

Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez says his office has had fewer than a dozen marijuana cases in recent months compared to 349 in January.

The NYPD has also shifted to issuing tickets instead of making arrests in most pot possession cases.
