Some children in Brooklyn are going green while having lots of fun.

A ribbon cutting was held Monday for the new green playground at PS 282 in Park Slope.

What was formerly an asphalt lot has been replaced with environmentally-friendly infrastructure . It includes a new turf field, running track, spray shower, drinking water fountain, basketball hoop and benches. The trees that were planted have the ability to store almost one million gallons of storm water a year. The trees will help improve the health of the Gowanus Canal.

The city's Department of Environmental Protection paid for most of the his project.
