NY1's investigative team has learned that an inmate was arrested for allegedly trying to rape a female NYPD officer in Brooklyn. 

Sources tell NY1 that Jeriah Bamugo was re-arrested for attempted rape.

According to sources, the incident happened at Brooklyn Central Booking while the officer was escorting the inmate to another cell.

Sources say the inmate allegedly made lewd comments to the officer and tried to rip off her pants, but was unable to do so.  

He had two prior arrests for forcible touching and stalking, according to sources.

The officer is being treated at a local hospital for a minor shoulder injury, sources say.
