Predators of the deep are now part of a new exhibit at the New York Aquarium.

"Ocean Wonders: Sharks!" holds more than a half a million gallons of water and is home to 18 species of sharks.

The aquarium says the new addition is meant to not only raise awareness of the fish, but also to talk about preservation.

"If you've ever gone swimming in the ocean here in New York, you've been swimming with the sharks. They're found right here in New York. So it's not somewhere else, it's right here. If you put that all together and start thinking about what we can do to protect the sharks right here in New York, it's a great message and a great experience," said New York Aquarium Director Jon Forrest Dohlin.

The exhibit opens to the public on June 30.
