"The death was cold, but this case cannot be cold," Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said.

It's still not clear how Brandy Odom's mutilated body ended up in Canarsie Park in Brooklyn, but her family says she was hanging out with friends in the days leading up to her death. They are calling on them to come forward with any information they may have.

"As to who she was with, they know who they are, those young ladies she was hanging with," community activist Tony Herbert said Monday evening at a vigil for Odom. "We want those individuals to come forward."

"There is a missing gap in this young lady's life, from April 2 to the time of the act — either the 8th or the 9th," Adams said. "Individuals who may have seen her on any of those days — it doesn't have to be the on the 8th or the 9th — if they saw her anytime in between, that information is important."

Odom's head and torso were discovered along a pathway in the park last Monday. Her arms, legs, and other body parts were found in another section of the park.

Her family and local leaders gathered near the site Monday to tie ribbons in her honor.

"Justice for Brandy! Justice for Brandy!" they chanted.

It was the second gathering in less than a week to try to draw attention to the case. At a vigil last Thursday, Odom's mother accused the NYPD of not doing enough to find her daughter's killer because she was African-American. The police department reached out her shortly after that.

"That just really touched my heart because, like I said, I don't want anybody to forget about this case. I don't want it to get cold," said Nicole Odom, Brandy's mother.

Nicole Odom said she lashed out at police officers after she saw details about the case in the media — details she didn't know about.

"They are getting in contact with me now. That's first off. That's a great big start," Nicole Odom said. "So as long as they can keep me contacted, keep me posted with what is going on with this investigation, I'm happy for that."

In the meantime, Nicole Odom is making funeral arrangements for her daughter. She said services will be held next Wednesday in Brooklyn.
